Abstract
Physical experiments often require the generation of a short-lived mag netic field with specified limits of nonuniformity. Various energy sto rage units, specifically capacitor banks, are used to supply pulsed po wer to the magnetic system. The simplest configuration of such a magne tic system is formed by two identical coaxial electromagnetic coils. I n this work the parameters of this system configuration are optimized, subject to field uniformity requirements. (C) 1997 American Institute of Physics.
