Abstract
Descriptions are given of exposures, mostly temporary, of tholeiite dy kes and kindred intrusions cutting Lower Carboniferous (Asbian) limest ones in Great Rocks Dale near Burton, Derbyshire. The presence of unus ually severe marmorization of the limestones in contact with the intru sions and the outstanding thickness of the Lower Miller's Dale Lava in the same area give indirect evidence that the various how-units of th e Lower Lava were fed by fissure eruption probably beneath the sea.
