Abstract
This paper shows that it is possible to fabricate various types of dif fraction optical elements (DOEs) with a discretely variable step of re ctilinear rulings on a specially equipped ruling engine for ruling dif fraction gratings. A schematic diagram is shown for a computer-based a pparatus for controlling the ruling engine, and examples of the fabric ation of certain DOEs are also given.
