The performance of zirconia-based electrochemical sensor for CO2 monitoring
is described. The basic components of the sensor include yttria-doped cubi
c zirconia as a solid electrolyte and a mixture of carbonates as a CO2 sens
ing material. In the range of 12-18 PPM Of CO2 the sensor's response time a
t 773 K is about 90 s. The sensor exhibits stable performance characteristi
cs within 3-4 months. It is shown that sensor performance is determined by
the formation of an ionic bridge that is formed during a special activation
procedure.
