Abstract
On the basis of Brinkman's equation, the problem of hydrodynamic resistance is analyzed for a row of periodically arranged parallel circular fibers pl aced in a uniform porous medium. The results are applied to the fan model o f a filter, for which an equation aimed at determination of Brinkman's cons tant is derived within the framework of a self-consistent theory. The resis tance force acting on a unit length of each fiber is calculated as a functi on of the geometrical parameters of the model. The capture coefficient is f ound for diffusion deposition of aerosols on fibers of the model filter. Th e results obtained agree with the experimental data.
