Abstract
EPR imaging data are presented for the distribution of single substitutiona l nitrogen (P1) in a synthetic diamond of mixed IIa/Ib character, and compa red with the distribution of the di-< 001 > -split interstitial (R1) produc ed during an electron irradiation. Since the defects are localised in diffe rent parts of the sample, it seems that the formation of R1 is somehow inhi bited in the lb-type material. The formation of isolated interstitials (R2) seems, however, to be the same in both types. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B. V. All rights reserved.
