The silica glasses with copper selenide nanoparticles were fabricated by th
e sol-gel technique. The samples were characterized with transmission elect
ron microscopy, Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy and optical absorpti
on. The composition of nanoparticles is close to Cu2Se stoichiometry and ca
n be varied under tuning of the preparation steps. These glasses exhibit th
e new features in visible and IR ranges. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All
