Using a silver oxide thin film of a non-magnetic mask laver, the magneto-op
tical (MO) recording signals were enhanced by surface plasmon. A resolution
of less than 170 Dun was achieved by the near-field coupling between a lig
ht-scattering center generated in the AgOx film and the light polarization
of MO marks. The electrical field intensity was also confirmed by a compute
r-simulation. Optimization of the disk structure and materials, and the eff
ects of readout power were investigated.
