We report on DC-magnetization measurements on an oriented polycrystalline s
ample of the layered superconductor Li-0.48(THF)(0.3) HfNCl having T-c simi
lar to 26 K. For the applied field perpendicular to the basal-plane (ab-pla
ne), we found that diamagnetic moments appear at temperature as high as T s
imilar to 2 x T-c, with increasing strength of the applied field. This indi
cates the existence of strong two-dimensional superconducting fluctuations.
The anisotropy of superconducting parameters such as the upper critical fi
eld and Ginzburg-Landau coherence length demonstrates the highly anisotropi
c character for the present superconductor. It is suggested that Li-0.48(TH
F)(0.3) HfNCl is a quasi-two-dimensional Superconductor. (C) 2001 Elsevier
