Magnetic properties of Pr(1-x)A(x)CoO(3) (A = Sr and Ba) have been investig
ated for 0 less than or equal to x less than or equal to 0.5. While the end
compound PrCoO3 exhibits no magnetic order, the Sr and Ba substitution for
Pr leads to ferromagnetic order with the Curie temperature Tc less than or
equal to similar to 250 K. For Pr1-xBaxCoO3, T-C has a maximum of similar
to 190 K at x = 0.3-0.4. while Pr1-xSrxCoO3 shows a monotonic increase in T
c with increasing x. Magnetization at 4.5 K changes almost linearly with lo
garithm of time, indicating the existence of extremely slow relaxation proc
esses such as spin- or cluster-glasses. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All
