We have studied magnetization of the Ce2Fe16Mn1 compound under high pressur
e up to 10 kbar and magnetic fields up to 5 T in the temperature range of 5
-300 K. A metamagnetic transition from the helical antiferromagnetic struct
ure (T-N = 198 K) into a ferromagnetic phase was observed at the critical f
ield H-CR = 0.34 T at 5 K under ambient pressure. The field H-CR increases
with increasing temperature and decreases with pressure. At pressures above
2 kbar, the induced ferromagnetic phase was stabilized at low temperatures
at zero magnetic field, in contrast to the behavior of Ce2Fe17. The result
s complete data on the strong correlation between the magnetic properties o
f the Ce2Fe17Mnx(0 less than or equal to x less than or equal to 1.5) inter
metallics and the lattice volume. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights
