Abstract
Magnetization, magneto resistance (MR). thermal expansion and magnetostrict ion (MS) measurements both in the ah-plane and along the c-axis of (La-1 Pr -- z(z))(1.2)Sr1.8Mn2O7 (z = 0:0.2) single crystals are reported. The subst itution by Pr (z = 0.2) decreased the T-c from similar to 120 K to similar to 95 K but also drastically changed the sign of the MS along the c-axis ne ar T-c. A large MS was found to accompany the MR. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
