A method for using neural networks to provide predictive flight envelope li
mit information was developed. The method was applied to provide a tactile
cueing system for normal load factor and angle-of-attack buffet limits on t
he V-22 tilt-rotor aircraft. Results from a real-time piloted simulation sh
owed that the system enabled the pilot to maneuver along the flight envelop
e boundaries without exceeding the limits. Results indicated that the appro
ach has the potential to expand the effective safe maneuvering flight envel
ope of aircraft with structural load limits.
