Abstract
In the last years a lot of innovations in the field of heat curing silicone rubbers set up business. First of all, platinum catalyzed addition curing systems have been developed. These cure faster than the tradional peroxide curing systems. Further new developments are pellets. In a large volume, fu lly automatical extrusion lines, this new HCR preform is gaining in popular ity. The pellets do not tack together and can be stored over months. Liquid silicone rubbers can be processed by liquid injection moulding (LIM) , a process very similar to thermoplastic injection. Newly developed self-a dhesive liquid silicone rubbers allow the production of rigid/ flexible com posites without the use of undercuts or primers. These products adhere to a lot of different thermoplastics and metals. It is a matter of fact that th ese new compounds can be processed in hardened steel moulds without any sur face treatment.
