Mj. Bhala et Pk. Freakley, Investigations on the use of protective coating material as an antiozonantfor natural rubber under static deformation, KAUT GUM KU, 54(7-8), 2001, pp. 394-396
The following study was set to investigate the effectiveness of a liquid ni
trile-butadiene rubber coating, applied as an antiozonant for natural rubbe
r under static conditions. Two natural rubber compounds were used, one with
a combined system of a specified wax and a chemical antiozonant and the ot
her without any antiozonant additives. The liquid rubber material was coate
d on the surface of a natural rubber substrate and press moulded at 60 C fo
r 15 minutes. Standard ASTM D1149-81/D518-91 methods were used for static o
zone testing through which samples were exposed to ozone for 72 hours. Prel
iminary results indicated that the coating material could effectively be us
ed as an antiozonant for natural rubber under static conditions.
