Synthesis and antiviral evaluation of 3 '-C-trifluoromethyl nucleoside derivatives bearing adenine as the base

3'-deoxy-3'-C-trifluoromethyl- (3), 2',3'-dideoxy-3'-C-trifluoromethyl- (5) and 2',3'-dideoxy-2',3'-didehydro-3'-C-trifluoromethyladenosine (6) deriva tives have been synthesized and their antiviral properties examined. All th ese derivatives were stereospecifically prepared by glycosylation of adenin e with a trifluoromethyl sugar precursor (1), followed by appropriate chemi cal modifications. The prepared compounds were tested for their activity ag ainst HIV, but they did not show an antiviral effect.
