Abstract
Very high-efficiency and high-power operation of a continuous-wave Nd:YVO4 laser is demonstrated using a grazing-incidence geometry with diode side pu mping. With 35 W diode bar pumping, multimode output power of 22.5 W (optic al-to-optical conversion efficiency of 64%) with slope efficiency of 72%, a nd single mode output power of 13.8 W (conversion efficiency of 40%) is pro duced at wavelength 1064 mn. Small-signal gain and thermal lensing in the a mplifier are investigated to explain the very high efficiency and spatial c haracteristics of the laser system.
