Abstract
The lattice dynamics of stoichiometric and nonstoichiometric La2NiO4 has be en investigated by inelastic neutron-scattering experiments on single cryst als. The phonon dispersion curves of stoichiometric La2NiO4 are found to cl osely resemble those of stoichiometric La2CuO4. Doping by extra oxygen or c ation deficiency leads to phonon anomalies similar to those observed in dop ed (La,Sr)(2)CuO4.
