As part of the Danish NEAREX project a three-dimensional Eulerian hemispher
ic air pollution model is used to study the transport and concentrations of
atmospheric CO2 in the North East Atlantic region. The model domain covers
the major part of the Northern Hemisphere and currently the model includes
simple parameterizations of the main sinks and sources for atmospheric CO2
. One of the objectives of the project is to study and maybe quantify the r
elative importance of the various sinks and source types and areas for this
region. In order to do so the model has been run with differentiated sourc
e types. Here the model setup and the used parameterizations will be descri
bed. The model is validated by comparing the results with atmospheric measu
rements from four monitoring stations in or close to the northern part of t
he North Atlantic. Some preliminary model results will be shown and shortly
discussed. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
