J. Bhattacharyya et Nr. Ray, Origin of the inversion of up-down potential asymmetry in the magnetized toroidal plasma, PLASMA PHYS, 43(8), 2001, pp. 1157-1168
The up-down potential asymmetry in the toroidal magnetic plasma is caused b
y the separation of ions and electrons due to the toroidicity of the confin
ing magnetic field and/or due to the effect of flow along the vertical magn
etic field. In the SINP tokamak an interesting phenomenon of inversion of u
p-down asymmetry during a discharge has been observed experimentally. The o
rigin of this up-down potential asymmetry and its inversion is attributed t
o two oppositely directed vertical velocities, causing the separation of ch
arged species.
