Abstract
Refining intensity may be used as a tool to control fibre properties. Pulp produced in the high-speed refiner system (Andritz RTS) in the Norske Skog Follum mill was investigated. The fraction of fibres with split fibre walls was significantly higher, compared with refining at conventional condition s. In the same installation, specific energy consumption is reduced by 15-2 0%. producing pulp to the same level of Canadian Standard Freeness.
