T. Fujikawa et al., ABNORMAL VAGINAL BLEEDING FROM ENDOMETRIAL POLYPS IN A WOMAN RECEIVING TAMOXIFEN THERAPY FOR BREAST-CANCER - REPORT OF A CASE, SURGERY TODAY-THE JAPANESE JOURNAL OF SURGERY, 27(8), 1997, pp. 769-772
We report herein the case of a woman receiving tamoxifen therapy for b
reast cancer who developed vaginal bleeding, subsequently found to be
caused by unusual endometrial polyps. Upon presentation, ultrasonograp
hy and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) demonstrated a tumor within th
e uterus. A hysterectomy was performed, and macroscopic examination sh
owed polyp-like lesions of the uterus. Histologically, these polyps de
monstrated cystically dilated glands and stromal proliferation, and we
re diagnosed as endometrial polyps. Although tamoxifen has few side ef
fects, any signs or symptoms of gynecological abnormalities should be
carefully evaluated in patients on long-term tamoxifen therapy.
