Abstract
Bacterial and viral pathogens have evolved sophisticated strategies to mani
pulate the host cell's life span to their own advantage. This is achieved b
y modifications of the intrinsic apoptosis program at several checkpoints:
kinases, caspases and mitochondria. The goal of this review is to give an o
verview over the molecular mechanisms involved.
