Abstract
The prediction of the occurrence of failure events for process equipment is of great significance for ensuring safe, highly efficient and extended ope ration of modem large scale chemical, petrochemical, nuclear and electric p ower plants. In this work, a series of new techniques for predicting the da mage to structural materials and remaining life of process equipment have b een developed, based on fuzzy set theory and quantitative metallography sup ported by pattern recognition techniques.
