T. Kato et al., Time and energy responses of liquid-xenon scintillation chamber for Ne-20 ion beam at 135A MeV, JPN J A P 1, 40(5A), 2001, pp. 3377-3381
The time and energy responses of a liquid-xenon (LXe) scintillation chamber
to heavy-ion beat-as were studied using Ne-20 ions at an energy of 135A Me
V. The scintillation light in LXe was observed by two photo multipliers (PM
Ts). The intrinsic time resolution by one PMT was confirmed to be approxima
tely 30 ps in sigma up to a beam intensity of 1.3 x 10(5) counts per second
(cps). The energy output was observed to be also constant for the increase
in the beam intensity. The energy resolution was 1.2-1.4% in sigma. The po
ssibilities of LXe as a detector medium for an energy spectrometer and a ti
ming detector for heavy-ion beams were described.
