Molecular typing of isolates revealed that neonatal coagulase-negative stap
hylococcal (CONS) septicemia is most frequently caused by predominant, anti
biotic-resistant CONS types, which are widely distributed among both neonat
es and staff of the neonatal unit, suggesting cross-contamination. Therefor
e, infection control measures may be valuable in the prevention of this com
mon nosocomial septicemia.
