Abstract
The basic knowledge needed for the performance and interpretation of scatte ring experiments is summarized. The probes for such experiments are x-rays and neutrons. The scattering mechanisms are discussed and applied to crysta lline and non-crystalline materials for the determination of structural and dynamical properties.
