S. Tolmachyov et al., Determination of Cl-36 by liquid scintillation counting from soil collected at the Semipalatinsk Nuclear Test Site, J RAD NUCL, 249(3), 2001, pp. 541-545
For the first time the concentration of Cl-36 was determined for soil from
the Semipalatinsk Nuclear Test Site (SNTS) in the former Soviet Union. Meas
urement was performed by liquid scintillation counting (LSC) after radioche
mical isolation of the nuclide. Development of the radiochemical separation
procedure and choice of scintillation cocktail for low level Cl-36 measure
ment was carried out. The concentration of Cl-36 in the sample was determin
ed as 1.5 +/-0.2 mBq/g-soil. The obtained Cl-36 concentration is in good ag
reement with that estimated using neutron fluence evaluated by gamma -spect
rometry of Co-60 and Eu-152.154.
