Entropy preservation under Markov coding

Using the notion of topological entropy for non-compact sets we prove that for a C1+alpha-map with a finite Markov partition the corresponding coding map preserves topological entropy of subsets. We also provide an example of a piecewise linear conformal repeller with a Markov coding decreasing topo logical entropy, These results are generalized to the notions of u-dimensio ns.
