To extend the spectral range to hard X-rays, a superconducting wiggler was
constructed and installed at the 0.8 Gev storage ring of the National Synch
rotron Radiation Laboratory (NSRL) to produce a radiation with the critical
energy of 2.5 5 keV. A wiggler radiation fan of horizontal 35 mrad has bee
n split into three branches to be equipped with three beamlines for studies
on extended X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS), X-ray diffraction and
scattering (XRDS) and X-ray deep lithography (LIGA), respectively. The XAFS
beamline was commissioned for user operation in the end of 1998. The other
s have been under construction in the second phase project of NSRL. This ar
ticle describes the beamline design, the main optical components-focusing m
irror and monochromator and the performance test results of the XAFS beamli
