Abstract
A review is presented on the recent advances in theoretical and experimenta l studies of itinerant electron metamagnetism (IEM) found in 3d and 5f inte rmetallic compounds without magnetic rare-earth elements. These compounds e xhibit various peculiar magnetic properties characteristic of IEM under hig h magnetic fields and high pressures. The observed IEM and peculiar propert ies are found to be qualitatively explained very well by theories of IEM ba sed on the spin fluctuation model. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V.
