Bb. Back et al., Charged-particle pseudorapidity density distributions from Au plus Au collisions at root s(NN)=130 GeV - art. no. 102303, PHYS REV L, 8710(10), 2001, pp. 2303
The charged-particle pseudorapidity density dN(ch)/d eta has been measured
for Au + Au collisions at roots(NN) = 130 GeV at RHIC, using the PHOBOS app
aratus. The total number of charged particles produced for the 3% most-cent
ral Au + Au collisions for \eta\ less than or equal to 5.4 is found to be 4
200 +/- 470. The evolution of dN(ch)/d eta with centrality is discussed, an
d compared to model calculations and to data from proton-induced collisions
. The data show an enhancement in charged-particle production at midrapidit
y, while in the fragmentation regions, the results are consistent with expe
ctations from pp and pA scattering.
