Abstract
Under alpha irradiation, alkaline chloride brines form H-2 (G = 1.2), O-2 a nd chlorate proportional to the dose. The concentrations of additionally fo rmed ClO- and ClO2- reach an equilibrium value which depends on the dose ra te and the chloride concentration. The solutions become strongly oxidizing (E-h = 900 mV), their pH decreases. This behaviour can be simulated by mean s of a kinetic model.
