Abstract
Radioscopy is increasingly used as a tool for non-destructive testing in in dustrial production. An example is the serial examination of cast light-all oy workpieces used in the automotive industry, like aluminum wheels and ste ering gears. The material defects occurring in the casting process such as cavities, gas, inclusions, and sponge must be detected to comply with secur ity requirements; consequently, it is necessary to check 100% of the parts. Since most defects are not visible, x-ray imaging is used for this task. I n this paper we present a review of the existing approaches of automated fl aw detections in aluminum castings.
