Abstract
Surface acoustic wave elements can be used in identification and sensor dev
ices (SAW transponders). They do not require a power supply and can wireles
sly be integrated. The present work reviews the operating principle of thes
e sensor systems and their state-of-the-art performance by some examples wh
ich include wireless measurement of temperature, pressure, acceleration, ma
gnetic field, and water content of soil.
