Abstract
The synthesis and crystal structure of the low temperature polymorph o f barium zirconium sulfide is reported. The title compound contains do uble BaZrS3 perovskite layers separated by BaS layers. The compound is the n = 2 member of the Ban+1ZrnS3n+1 Ruddlesden-Popper sulfides. Thi s polymorph of Ba3Zr2S7 was crystallized at 1203 K in a BaCl2/CsCl eut ectic flux and has P4(2)/mnm crystal symmetry in contrast to the high- temperature polymorph which has I4/mmm crystal symmetry.
