We consider phase behaviors of smectic-A liquid crystal/linear polymer syst
ems. We combine Maier-Saupe-McMillan theory for an anisotropic mixing with
a modified double lattice model for an isotropic mixing. To account for hig
hly oriented interactions between segments, the secondary lattice is employ
ed. Calculated values using the proposed model show a remarkably good agree
ment with experimental data for the given systems. (C) 2001 Published by El
