Hydrogen maser is an essential frequency reference standard in radio astron
omy. This paper provides information on the design and specifications of a
new generation of hydrogen maser for the Chinese mobile VLBI stations, inco
rporating improvements in the microwave cavity-storage bulb, magnetic shiel
ds, and atomic beam optics. The performance measurements shows that the fre
quency stability is better than 1 x 10(-14) for time intervals from 80 seco
nds to 1 day.
