S. Rudberg, GLACIAL AND INTERGLACIAL EROSION IN SCANDINAVIAN MOUNTAINS IN A W-E COMPARISON INCLUDING AN APPROACH TO A QUANTITATIVE CALCULATION, Zeitschrift fur Geomorphologie, 41(2), 1997, pp. 183-204
The different results of glacial erosion between west and east in Scan
dinavia are well known. This difference is described (maps 1 and 2) an
d evaluated. The difference includes fjords and lakes, sounds inside h
igh islands, trough valleys, glacial cirques, and the strandflat as cr
eated by joint action of glacial dissection and marine abrasion in col
d interglacials and interstadial periods. An important part is an appr
oach to quantitative calculation of lost rock (in km(3)). The calculat
ions are made for the groups of glacial and interglacial forms. The ra
nking list for lost bedrock is topped by fjords and through valleys. T
he total figures for lost rock are compared with similar figures for t
he Sognefjord basin. They are of the same order of magnitude in spite
of different calculation methods. The relative chronology and problems
still remaining for further studies are briefly commented.
