Abstract
ANKA is a 2.5 GeV synchrotron radiation facility under construction at Fors chungszentrum Karlsruhe. It is scheduled to become operational in fall 2000 . From that date the facility will be owned and run by a private company, A NKA GmbH. This paper describes the layout and status of the facility as wel l as its research potential with special emphasis on the infrared beam line . It concludes with an outline of ways to have access to the facility.
