We have prepared a new series of R-Fe-B alloys with R = Nd, Pr, and Dy havi
ng the Y3Fe62B14 structure using the melt-spinning technique. This metastab
le phase when annealed at higher temperatures transforms to the R2Fe14B1 alpha -Fe phase. We have studied the crystallization behavior of these allo
ys. Fe-57 Mossbauer studies have shown that the as-spun samples were amorph
ous and the ribbons annealed at 600-620 degreesC contain the metastable Y3F
e62B14 type structure with a-Fe. The analysis of the Mossbauer spectra of t
he R3Fe62B14 phases has yielded average hyperfine fields of 229 kG at 295 K
and 315 kG at 17 K.
