Oriented polycrystalline materials of Pr0.15Tbx Dy0.85-xFe2 have been obtai
ned by the Czochralski method with the cold crucible system under a purifie
d-argon atmosphere. Experiments were carried out over a wide range, and the
conditions, including growth of 30-10 mm/hr and temperature gradient of 11
0-140 degreesC/cm, have been optimized for oriented polycrystalline materia
ls growth. The magnetostrictive properties of Pr0.15TbxDy0.85-xFe2 were fou
nd to be very sensitive to both the Pr stoichiometry and to the Tb/Dy ratio
. The measurement results reveal that the oriented polycrystalline material
s of Pr0.15Tb0.2Dy0.65Fe2 possess large magnetostriction at room temperatur
e.
