Abstract
The problem of normalisation of non-normalised fuzzy sets/possibility distr ibutions is considered. A definition of a valid normalised possibility dist ribution is given at the mass assignment level and a characterisation of th is definition at the distribution level is proposed. A number of possible n ormalisations axe considered these being related to certain epistemic princ iples. Finally an interval approach to reasoning with partially inconsisten t knowledge is introduced.
