Abstract
The iron nitrides epsilon -Fe2-3N and zeta -Fe2N were studied by investigat ing the correlation among crystal structures, nitrogen contents and magneti sm. All properties were measured with the same sample. The spontaneous magn etization at 0 K and the Curie temperature of the E-nitride were evaluated as functions of the nitrogen content Ely means of Arrott plots. The differe ntial susceptibility X-dIII versus temperature curve of the C-nitride was f ound to have a peak. The magnetism of the zeta -nitride is discussed and it is concluded to be antiferromagnetic with a Neel temperature of 11-12 K. ( C) 2001 Elsevier Science BY All rights reserved.
