The magnetic properties of single-crystalline easy-axis ThMn12-type ferrima
gnetic HoCo10Ti2 have been studied. At 4.2 K, the magnetization process wit
h the field applied along the easy c-axis is completely different from that
, with the field applied perpendicular to it. The bending process of the in
itially antiparallel Ho and Co magnetic moments, that is observed in the la
tter measurement, is briefly described in terms of mean-field theory. Furth
ermore, when the field is applied in the hard magnetization direction, the
bending process has directly been observed by means of measurement of the t
ransversal magnetization. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserve
