Distant-neighbors exchange constants in Cd1-xMnxSe from magnetization steps

From magnetization measurements at T = 20 mK on two bulk samples of Cd1-xMn xSe(x = 0.59% and x = 1.15%), four distant-neighbors antiferromagnetic exch ange constants have been measured. The results, in order of decreasing stre ngth, after the two Ys for nearest-neighbors pairs, are - 0.35 +/- 0.01 K, - 0.20 +/- 0.01 K, - 0.10 +/- 0.01 K, and - 0.08 +/- 0.01 K. These results confirm the long-range character of the distant-neighbor exchange interacti ons in the Mn-based II-VI diluted magnetic semiconductors. (C) 2001 Elsevie r Science B.V.
