Da. Ogorodnikov et al., Russian research on experimental hydrogen-fueled dual-mode scramjet: Conception and preflight tests, J PROPUL P, 17(5), 2001, pp. 1041-1048
The experience of model dual-mode scramjet (DMSCRAM) creation and the main
results of ground and preflight tests are analyzed in this paper beginning
from the conception choice, goals, and working program implemented for abou
t 15 years, preceding to the first flight test of hypersonic flight laborat
ory. Design schemes for plane and axisymmetrical engine concept are examine
d. The description of experimental test facilities, test instrumentation, a
nd methods of readings treatment used in ground-test procedure of DMSCRAM a
re given. The test results of ground model engine at Mach-number range M =
3.5-6.5 and ground test-results for flight type engine at M = 5 were cited
and confirmed the durability and readiness of developed DMSCRAM for flight
tests.
