Direct ligation of an arteriovenous fistula may be difficult because of ext
ensive local vascular proliferation.
Cyanoacrylate embolization facilitates surgical excision of peripheral arte
riovenous fistulas, because it provides excellent hemostasis and outlines t
he boundaries of the tissue to be resected.
Complications of cyanoacrylate embolization include pyrexia, local tissue r
eaction, and embolization of vessels distal to the fistula.
