Av. Davydov et al., Determination of the CoTi congruent melting point and thermodynamic reassessment of the Co-Ti system, MET MAT T A, 32(9), 2001, pp. 2175-2186
New experimental results and a thermodynamic re-evaluation of the Co-Ti sys
tem are presented. Using differential thermal analysis (DTA) and a visual o
bservation-of-melting (VOM) technique, the approximate to 220 K inconsisten
cy in melting temperature in the literature for the B2 (CoTi) phase is reso
lved. The congruent melting point is determined to be 1776 +/- 5 K. The rev
ised B2 melting temperature, along with other critically reviewed thermoche
mical and phase-equilibria data from the literature, are used to reassess t
he thermodynamic description of the Co-Ti system. As a result, a self-consi
stent set of optimized Gibbs-energy expressions for all CoTi phases is obta
ined.
