An application of micro-PIXE technique for the analysis of pottery fragment
s from an intensively studied Hungarian archaeological site, Vors-Mariaassz
onysziget, is detailed in this work. The fragments originated from differen
t closed archaeological units of various ages. The correctness of our hypot
hesis, i.e. the correlation between the bulk and microscopic contents of th
e samples and the raw material source and/or manufacturing technique (in th
is way the age) for the vessels is discussed. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V
